2010
looks like it's going to be another bumper year for the Salters'
Institute! Preparations for the Salters' Festivals of
Chemistry and Salters' Chemistry Camps
have already begun with 51 Festivals
due to take place between March and June and 16
Camps to be held between June and August.
These events are hosted at Universities throughout the
UK and Ireland.

A
grand total of 51 Festivals will take place at
Universities throughout the UK and Ireland and all students from
Years 7 and/or 8 (or equivalent) are invited to take part. One
team of four students is welcome from each school
and places are allocated on a first come first served basis, so
do enter early to ensure a place at the venue of your choice.

Prepare
yourselves for an exhilarating year ahead with 16
Camps due to take place in the summer of 2010.
We are delighted to welcome Heriot-Watt University which hosts
Camps for the first time and The University of Cambridge who are
back on board next year. Following the success of the back-to-back
style Camps, all our Host Universities will be running 2 x 3 day
Camps.
Application forms for the 2010 Salters' Chemistry Camps
can be downloaded from our website and are also available in the
current issue of A Pinch of Salt! Applications will be considered
in the order in which they are received. No closing date
has been set. For students to secure a place at the Camp
of their choice, they are advised to apply as early as
possible.

National Awards for
Science
Technicians 2010
The Salters'
National Awards for Science Technicians will now take place annually.
If you have a hard working, enthusiastic technician that you feel
deserves recognition then nominate them now!
Awards are
open to technicians with the following experience:-
Science Technicians
in schools and colleges up to age 18
Science
Technicians with five or more years experience

Chemistry
Olympiad
The 41st
International Chemistry Olympiad was hosted by the
University of Cambridge in July. The Director of the Salters'
Institute, Sir David Harrison; the Master of the Salters' Company,
Mr Richard Callingham and Dr The Hon. Alexander Todd presented
Medals and Certificates to some of the Winners, who had travelled
from all corners of the world to compete at the event.

ASE
Annual Conference
Thursday

Next
year the ASE Annual Conference will be hosted at the
University of Nottingham. Comprising
of over 350 lectures and workshops, the Conference provides
a wealth of information for teachers and science technicians
nationwide. Our team from the Salters' Institute will
be at stand F1 to offer advice and information on all Institute
activivites.
