The Salters' Company Hall
THE CHARITIES
Much of the current work of The Salters’ Company revolves around philanthropy. The Salters’ Institute is the Company’s flagship charity, which supports science education. In addition, project grants and general donations are made to charities through The Salters’ Charitable Foundation, which also offers support to members of The Salters’ Company, their widows or dependants and other persons at the discretion of the Trustees. Support is also given to the residents of the Company Almshouses in Maidenhead and Watford.
As part of its sexcentenary celebrations in 1994, the Company secured substantial funding to develop the Salters’ City Foyer in Smithfield in partnership with Soho Housing and Centrepoint, a charity for the homeless. In conjunction with Centrepoint, who runs the Foyer on a day-to-day basis, the Company assists young people looking for work and skills training by offering mentoring, volunteering, professional and social activities through its members, particularly the Young Livery.
