Registered Charity
No 244092
The Charity was established
by a Scheme of the Charity Commission sealed on 15th May 1985,
combining the Charities of Sir John Coates, Mrs Cock, Robert
Haring, Barnard Hyde (exclusive of that part for the poor of
little Ilford), Robert Hyett, John Ireland, Henry Plompton and
Sir Timothy Waldo and now also including the Charities of William
Robson, Thomas Barber, David Cock, Robert Payne and the Master,
Wardens, Officers and Poor.
Objectives of the Charity
The
income of the Charity is applied to relieve generally or individually
persons who are in conditions of need, hardship or distress
by making grants of money or providing or paying for items,
services or facilities to reduce the need, hardship or distress
of such persons, particularly members of the Salters Company,
the widows or dependants of such members and other persons at
the discretion of the Trustees.
Over
the years the charity has assisted members of the Salters' family
as well as supporting the education of the Company's Presentees
at Christ's Hospital school in Horsham, the Almshouse residents
and young and vulnerable people in the Salters' City Foyer.
More recently money has been donated to The Family Welfare Association,
Housing the Homeless Central Fund and St. Giles Church, Cripplegate
to provide funds specifically to help others who find themselves
in dire finiancial circumstances and require just a small grant
to help them regain control of their lives.
For
some years it has been the practice of the Salters' Company
and its members to donate to the Relief of Need charity.
