This was set up in 1991 to bring the leaders of major institutions together to consider wider policy issues. It has run annual major seminars since 1993 on specific issues of concern in science education. The Group consists of the Presidents and Chief Executives of the member institutions. The group holds an annual seminar to discuss a current topical subject concerning chemical education.

CEG Seminar 2010
Thursday 21 October 2010, Salters' Hall
This year's Seminar focused on concerns of different kinds about the ways we currently assess school students' learning in Science. For example, are expectations being set appropriately at KS3, GCSE, and A level, or are expected standards of attainment falling unacceptably? Does the assessment regime sufficiently challenge and stimulate the more able; does it reward the achievement of the less able? It is of course easier to criticise assessment practices than to devise effective alternatives.
The audience consisted of people from government, education, academia and industry.
CEG Seminar 2009
Tuesday 3 March 2009, Salters' Hall
This year's Seminar focused on "The Teaching and Learning of Science at Key Stage 3". For some time there has been concern about the teaching and learning of science at Key Stage 3. Research seems to show clearly that many students lose their enthusiasm for science during the 11-14 years, and begin to see a career in science as 'not for them'. It is not at all clear that the changes introduced in 2008 to the national curriculum KS3 programme of study will solve these problems.
This Seminar provided an opportunity to think about what we want of Key Stage 3 science - and in particular of its chemistry strand.
The audience consisted of representatives of the teaching profession, Goverment departments, examining and validating bodies, Local Authorities, publishers, and a range of employers.
CEG Seminar 2008 Thursday 7 February 2008, Salters' Hall
The aim of this year's Seminar, "Science for the Twenty First Century", was to examine the recent development of new GCSE specifications, including Twenty First Century Science; to hear of experience in schools of teaching, assessment and pilot evaluation over the past year; and to take a forward look in the light of national policies.
The audience consisted of people from government, education, academia and industry.
