Previous Conferences

2003 "Excellence in Chemistry Teaching"
6 - 10 July 2003

The Conference took place at The University of York from 6 to 10 July 2003, and was attended by 61 chemistry teachers. The programme followed a similar format as in previous years with a mixture of lectures, laboratory sessions, workshops and a site visit with the emphasis on the teaching of Advanced Chemistry. As with all our Teachers' Conferences the teachers stay ended with the Course Dinner, held at the King's Manor, a medieval building owned by the University. An informative and enjoyable experience was had by all.

2002 "Innovation through Chemistry"
7 - 11 July 2002
The Conference, sponsored by ICI, took place at The University of York from 7 to 11 July 2002, and was attended by 56 chemistry teachers. A varied programme enabled the teachers to hear lectures from representatives of ICI and its subsidaries along with members of the Chemistry Department. The teachers were also given the opportunity for hands-on practical activities in the university laboratories, an example this being an NMR Workshop. ICI also arranged for the teachers to have a site visit to the Billingham/Wilton chemical plant. As with all our Teachers' Conferences the teachers stay ended with the Course Dinner, held at King's Manor, a medieval building owned by the University. An informative and enjoyable experience was had by all.

2001 Conference
"Natures's Chemistry"

The Conference, sponsored by Nestlé, took place at The University of York from 8 to 12 July 2001, and was attended by 61 chemistry teachers. A varied programme enabled the teachers to hear lectures, given by representatives of Nestlé and members of the Chemistry Department, on a variety of subjects related to the theme. There were also opportunities for hand-on practical work in the university laboratories. Delegates were able to relax with a tour of churches in York to look at the stained glass, with Peter Gibson, who has spent a lifetime working on the conservation of the stained glass in York Minster. The course dinner was as usual held in the King's Manor, a medieval building, owned by the University, in the centre of York.
