Salters Advanced Prizes

Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology

About The Prize

Launched in 2005, in 2010 the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology course completed its fifth year as a national course with the A2 course being taken by 6,759 students, representing 14% of the total number taking A level Biology, and the AS course being taken by 10,359 students. This is a ground breaking course taught through contemporary real-life topics to motivate students with a novel approach to assessment of AS coursework. The course is being developed by The University of York Science Education Group and the Nuffield Curriculum Centre.

Prizes were awarded annually to the candidates who have achieved the highest marks in the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology exams.

Salters Advanced Chemistry

About The Prize

The Salters Advanced Chemistry project began in 1988 and uses the idea of teaching scientific concepts as the story unfolds. The published course materials were launched in 1994. In 2010 the A2 course was taken by 6,759 new students, representing 15.3% of the total number taking A level Chemistry, and the AS Chemistry by 10,359 students. It is the fastest growing Advanced Chemistry course and it is hoped that numbers will reach 20% of the total Advanced Chemistry entries.

Prizes are awarded annually to the candidates who have achieved the highest marks in the Salters Advanced Chemistry exams.

Salters Horners Advanced Physics

About The Prize

The Salters Horners Advanced Physics course was launched in January 1996, with the collaboration of another Livery Company, the Horners' Company. Our course is the sole Physics syllabus, based on the new Dearing model. In 2010 the A2 course was taken by 2,650 new students, representing 8.6% of the total number taking A level Physics, and the AS course by 3,862 students.

Prizes are awarded annually to the candidates who have achieved the highest grades in the Salters Horners Physics exams.
